Chicken little…

Posted in Food on August 29, 2010 by beatricebella

Hi all! Well Sunday night and we just arrived home from a super dooper big weekend away visiting mum’s folks! We had a great time – all the more ’cause my friend Gigi came to stay this weekend and will be spending the next 6 weeks with us! YIPPEE! Her mum and dad dropped her off on Friday night, and Saturday morning (after heading to Brewbakers bakery to load up with delicious Bagels!) we headed south on a mini-road trip. Mum and dad have just started a new tradition of stopping at the beach on the way down south and back – which meant Gigi and I had what can only be described as the BEST TIME EVER! I know I know – you know me well enough now to know I am prone to the occasional bout of exaggeration – but I’m being serious here guys – I mean sand AND swimming were involved! Anyway  Mum says she’s too tired after chasing us all over the beach to help me download the pics and post them tonight but said if I promised I’d be good she’ll help me with it later in the week. Paws crossed!

So tonight I thought I’d post about one of my all time favourite foods – can you guess what it is? Yep, the humble CHICKEN!!!!! So people I have to tell you that I love chicken SOOOOO much that mum and dad let me have it for one whole meal a day (’cause I’m a puppy I still get two meals a day plus if I’m really good I also get a brisket bone). My favourite is organic chicken necks – delish – raw of course – and if I’m really lucky I get an egg too. This is supposed to make my coat shine (according to dad), but I don’t care ’cause they taste so good! Sometimes if I’m really lucky, and mum has time (it gets v messy!), I get a whole raw egg to play with then eat – how lucky am I? I tried to eat the shell a few times, high in calcium apparently, but frankly people I have to say – it pretty much sucks – so don’t try it okay. Gigi told me today she prefers whole wings and drumsticks (!!), but even though my adult teeth are largely through I think I’ll stick with the necks for now, much easier to chew!

So here for your viewing pleasure I present a sort of homage to chooks. As usual these poultry pics are pinched from mum and dad’s photo albums mostly from somewhere they call “overseas”… (wherever that is I’m sure I wouldn’t like it – Gigi’s parents are going there and it seems to involve Vizsla-free travel! Just quietly I have my paws crossed that mum and dad aren’t contemplating going back there anytime soon…).

Big Day Out…

Posted in Outings on August 28, 2010 by beatricebella

Hi all! Well I’ve been promising to post on my recent visit to my very first ever dog show and mum has FINALLY come home from work for the week and agreed to help me put it together! You might remember a few weeks ago mum and dad went to the Royal Brisbane Show to meet my real family who were visiting from Victoria. Well the day after mum and dad gave me the best surprise ever – they took me a gun-dog show! It was a beautiful day and we arrived to find hundreds of different types of dogs (and not just gun-dogs!), more than i’d ever seen before and in all shapes and sizes!

We wandered around and checked it all out. First I chilled out with the Salukis…then it was on to the amazing Afghans!  Boy oh boy – they were like movie-stars!

Next we came across a dog I’d never seen before – in fact apparently there are very few in Australia…it’s called a Pharaoh Hound…and was frankly, I thought,  pretty weird looking. Typically mum liked it – oh my God – and I may wake up one day and find myself sharing the backyard with more than just the birds – NOOOOOOO!!!

Anyway next it was time to scoff at those stupid looking poodles…I mean seriously people – what type of human would do this to a self-respecting dog!  I hatched a plan to spring the glamazons  from the horrors of the hairspray and mascara but one of the bitches (her name was something like Kiki or Coco) said she enjoyed it and couldn’t go back to air-drying her fur!

After the poodles it was 101 dalmations! Boy I’ve never seen so many dalmies in one place (okay okay so I’ve only ever seen one other dalmy and that was a puppy at the local off leash park). Now these gals were magnificent, and I could relate to them better ’cause they looked a lot more like me in shape. Geez they had it all, uppity yet  elegant (with proud buttocks!) – just like a show dog should be!

Last but not least we came to the V’s!!!!! Whoa!!! There was Agnes who had raised me from a pup!!!! I hadn’t seen her since she put me on a plane when I was 9 weeks old to go and live with my mum and dad! I was V waggly excited as you can expect (those of you who’ve never met a V won’t understand that we don’t just wag our tails when we’re excited – we wag our whole bodies!!!). Anyway below is a pic of me with Agnes – boy was it nice to see her! She was showing some of my relatives (Paris, Crystal and JB) – I met them too – they were SO BEAUTIFUL! But you know the funniest thing – their whiskers had been trimmed! Heh heh!! I had to have a giggle about that – but they told me it was all about being as magnificent as possible for the judges.

After we watched the V’s being judged we went shopping and mum and dad bought me a new toy (a soft stuffed parrot – this was before Steigy & Scooter disappeared back when I was still dreaming of placing them gently in my mouth as a good duck hunter should AND GENTLY GRINDING THEM TO A PULP WITH MY NEW EXTRA STRONG ADULT TEETH!!! Anyway now I just wish Scooter was home *sigh*). (God if you bring her back I promise not to daydream about eating her again…cross my heart).

After bagging my soft parrot (I just turned on the melt the heart eyes – works a treat every time!), it was time to get back in the car and head home. Oh boy – what a great day…what a great big day out…!!

New York, New York!

Posted in Travel on August 25, 2010 by beatricebella

Hi all. Well day 7 and still no sign of poor Scooter – we’re beginning to think someone may have adopted her. Well it’s a drizzly Wednesday evening here in Brisvegas and I have a serious bagel craving – so I’ve hit the photo file to bring you some of my very favourite dog-tastic pics from, where else, but bagel central – New York New York!!

This is dad checking out a Giacometti dog at MOMA…

This is the craziest guy I’ve ever seen (I mean seriously people – poodles and labradors….NOT my idea of showing off  NYC style!)

This is more like it though…

And what’s about the only thing tastier than a bagel…a genuine NYC hot dawg! Dogone!!!

Not to be confused with a snag dog!

And talking about confusing – I thought they called it the BIG APPLE!

Last but not least is what I like to refer to as the tough fluff…Who you lookin’ at Willis!?

Ah – New York, New York…what a wonderful town!

Birds missing…!

Posted in Family & Friends on August 22, 2010 by beatricebella

Hi all. Something terrible has happened and I can’t help feeling partially responsible. Last week when mum was feeding two of the birds Scooter (she’s 4, below) and Steiglitz (aka Steigy – he’s 11, that’s him above) (there are 3 altogether), I decided to steal some attention so began acting cute in mum’s general vicinity. Little did I suspect my ploy would be so successful that mum turned around to play with me, then walked away forgetting to close the bird’s cage door! It wasn’t until 45 minutes later that we all realized Steigy and Scooter had made a break for freedom… I thought freedom sounded pretty good (especially the bit about having the backyard almost all to myself!) but boy oh boy were mum and dad upset – apparently pet cockatiels can’t survive long in the wild. As you can imagine mum and dad mobilised and we were in full search mode for days – including walking the neighbourhood and whistling to see if there was any response. I haven’t been much help I’m afraid…we are looking again today – wish us luck!

Best in show…

Posted in Family & Friends on August 15, 2010 by beatricebella

Hi all! Boy am I excited… for the first time since I arrived in Brisbane in a tiny air crate when I was 9 weeks old my real family have come from Melbourne to visit!!! YIPPEE!!!  Agnes from Hubertus, my adopted mum until I came to Brisbane, along with four of her magnificent V’s, came up to show at the Royal Brisbane Show – and I sent mum and dad to say hello and take some pics! Unfortunately non-show dogs are not allowed – so I had to go and hang out with my sister, Princess Sophie (YAY!!!), while both our mums and dad went to the show yesterday. Sophie’s dad looked after us at their place – which was great ’cause he’s a big softie!

Anyway here they are backstage before their turn in the ring…

I think this is Paris…isn’t she gorgeous – one day I want to grow up and be just like her (*sigh*).

And this is JB and Crystal… (ha ha mum – maybe I won’t grow out of chewing my bed after all!!)

And this is Agnes in the ring…

Anyway today I was super lucky ’cause I got to see them all before they headed back to Melbourne after all!

…but ’cause I’m really tired I might have to leave that adventure story for later in the week.

Enjoy your lazy Sunday afternoon all!
